The Roadmap to Canada PR

Step-by-step strategy for international students to transition from a Study Permit to Permanent Residency.

The "Study-Work-Stay" Triple Play

Canada is unique because its immigration system is specifically designed to reward international students with local degrees and work experience. Here is the standard progression:

01

Graduate from a DLI

Complete a program of at least 8 months at a **Designated Learning Institution**. To maximize your PR chances, a 2-year program is highly recommended as it grants a 3-year PGWP.

02

Secure your PGWP

Apply for the **Post-Graduation Work Permit** within 180 days of graduating. This allows you to work for any employer in Canada and gain the "Canadian Work Experience" required for PR.

03

Gain 1 Year of TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 Experience

To qualify for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), you need 12 months of skilled work experience. Ensure your job falls under the correct National Occupational Classification (NOC).

Major PR Pathways for Students

Express Entry (CEC)

The fastest route. Points are awarded for your Canadian degree and 1 year of Canadian work experience.

Most Popular
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Each province (BC, Ontario, Alberta, etc.) has specific streams for graduates of their local universities.
